Opening Ourselves to God's Access: The Blessings of His Invitation

Updated: Jan 8

In our fast-paced, often chaotic world, it can be difficult to carve out moments of stillness and openness to God's presence. Yet, the Bible offers us a remarkable invitation to access the divine, and it’s through our willingness to seek, knock, and choose the path He lays before us.

Access to God is always possible. It is His eternal invitation to you.

God's Invitation to Access

Matthew 7:7-8 invites us into an intimate relationship with God through His promise of availability: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

This passage is not just about receiving what we desire; it is about the opportunity for a deeper connection with God. When we open ourselves to His access, He promises that our seeking will not be in vain. Through asking, seeking, and knocking, we signal our desire for God’s presence, His guidance, and His blessings. God’s response is a blessing of access—whether it be wisdom, peace, or His transformative love. The more we engage, the more He opens doors to growth and understanding, leading us to places where His grace can transform us.

The Temple of God's Presence

In 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, we are reminded that we ourselves are temples of God's Holy Spirit: "Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.”

This truth signifies that access to God isn’t just an external pursuit; it begins within. By accepting Christ into our hearts, we are granted direct access to the Spirit of God, who dwells inside us. We must, therefore, cultivate our spiritual lives, creating space for God to guide us. The temple within is not just a physical or emotional space—it is the very place where we connect with God, where His presence can take root, and where His transformative power flows freely.

Choosing the Right Path

However, this access does not come without intentionality. Matthew 7:13-14 reminds us that the road to this divine access is narrow: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Here, Jesus emphasizes the importance of choosing the right path—one that requires effort, discipline, and decision-making. The broad road of distractions and temptations leads us away from God, but the narrow path, though challenging, leads to eternal life. The act of choosing this path is an act of opening ourselves to God's access, as He reveals more of Himself to those who truly seek His will. It’s about focusing on spiritual health, surrendering worldly desires, and aligning with God’s purpose.

Conclusion: A Blessing of Access

In our journey with God, He provides us with endless opportunities for deeper access to His presence, His Spirit, and His blessings. By seeking Him wholeheartedly, nurturing His Spirit within us, and committing ourselves to the narrow path of righteousness, we position ourselves to experience the richness of His love. God's invitation is clear: ask, seek, knock—and the doors will be opened to the abundant life He has prepared for us. As we do so, we access His divine blessings, and in turn, His blessings become a testimony to His goodness in our lives.
